BAKE Awards 2026

Kenya’s creator economy took centre stage over the weekend as the Bloggers Association of Kenya (BAKE) celebrated the winners of the landmark 10th anniversary BAKE Awards, recognizing the country’s most influential digital creators while highlighting the sector’s growing contribution to business, entrepreneurship and youth employment.

Held under the theme “The Creator Economy: Turning Content into Capital,” this year’s awards celebrated a decade of transformation that has seen content creation evolve from a hobby into a thriving business ecosystem supporting thousands of young entrepreneurs.

The celebration comes against the backdrop of industry estimates by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS), Baraza Media Lab, PwC and UNESCO valuing Kenya’s creator economy at Ksh1.27 trillion (USD 9.8 billion).

Today, creators generate revenue through advertising, brand partnerships, digital subscriptions, affiliate marketing, online courses, merchandising and content licensing, making the sector one of Kenya’s fastest-growing sources of income for young people.

Corporate Kenya Deepens Investment in Creators

This year’s BAKE Awards demonstrated how major brands increasingly recognize creators as business partners capable of shaping consumer behavior and driving digital commerce.

Absa Bank Kenya returned as the Anchor Partner and sponsor of the Business Creator category, while Visa Kenya sponsored both the Technology Creator and Lifestyle Creator categories. Other partners included Baraza Media Lab, Kenya Pipeline Company, SemaBOX Africa, Equator Outfitters and AM Communications.

Speaking during the awards, Caroline Wairugu, Senior Communications Manager at Absa Bank Kenya, emphasized that creators are helping shape Kenya’s future.

“Behind every viral post, every insightful blog, and every meaningful conversation is a creator shaping how Kenya sees itself. At Absa, we believe creators are not just producing content—they are entrepreneurs, storytellers, and changemakers building our future. Through partnerships like this, we remain committed to empowering young creatives with opportunities that turn talent into sustainable impact and long-term capital.”

Visa Kenya Country Manager John Njoroge highlighted the importance of digital payments in enabling creators to build sustainable businesses.

“At Visa, we believe the digital economy represents one of the continent’s most dynamic economic forces, transforming creativity into sustainable livelihoods and reshaping how value moves. As BAKE marks ten years of championing Kenya’s online community, we are proud to be working with them to help creators build, grow, and monetize their craft through secure, seamless digital payment solutions that connect them to audiences and opportunities both locally and across borders. Creators are at the heart of the new digital economy, and by equipping them with the tools to get paid reliably, we are investing in a generation of entrepreneurs who will define the future of commerce in Kenya and beyond.”

Simply Apondi Takes the Biggest Prize

The night’s biggest winner was Simply Apondi, who made history by winning both the County Creator award and the coveted Creator of the Year title.

The achievement demonstrates how regional creators are building influential brands and attracting audiences across the country, proving that success is no longer limited to Nairobi-based creators.

According to BAKE Chairperson Kennedy Kachwanya, the awards reflect the growing economic significance of the creator industry.

“Celebrating the 10th edition of the BAKE Awards is a proud milestone for the Bloggers Association of Kenya and the entire creator ecosystem. Over the past decade, content creators have transformed digital platforms into powerful spaces for innovation, storytelling, entrepreneurship, and civic engagement. In a country still battling youth unemployment, the creator economy has become a vital source of sustainable income, businesses, and economic contribution for thousands of young Kenyans. This year’s awards were especially meaningful as Simply Apondi was crowned both Creator of the Year and Best County Creator—a powerful symbol of our vision to nurture digital talent in every corner of Kenya, not just the major cities. Creativity knows no geographical boundaries. As we mark ten years, BAKE remains fully committed to championing creators, promoting digital excellence, and building a stronger, more inclusive creator economy for the future.”

A Decade of Building Kenya’s Creator Economy

As BAKE celebrates ten years of recognizing digital excellence, the awards have become more than an annual competition. They have evolved into a platform that highlights the economic impact of creators, encourages professionalism and strengthens collaboration between brands and digital entrepreneurs.

With the creator economy now valued at more than Ksh1.27 trillion, the sector is increasingly becoming a pillar of Kenya’s digital economy, creating jobs, inspiring innovation and demonstrating that content has become one of the country’s most valuable forms of capital.
