Stanbic Holdings PLC posts 27% growth in assets as H12026 net profit rises to KES 6.6 billion

Stanbic Holdings PLC posts 27% growth in assets as H12026 net profit rises to KES 6.6 billion, highlighting the bank’s strong financial performance and continued support for Kenya’s economy during the first half of 2026.

The bank reported a profit after tax of KES 6.6 billion, while its total assets increased by 27% to KES 602 billion. Customer deposits also grew by 28% to KES 422 billion, showing that more customers continue to trust Stanbic with their money.

Stanbic’s lending activities also expanded during the period. Customer loans rose by 24% to KES 290 billion, with much of the financing going to important sectors such as trade, agriculture, manufacturing, and energy. The bank said this funding helped businesses grow, encouraged consumer spending, and supported job creation across Kenya.

Stanbic Holdings PLC Chief Executive Dr. Joshua Oigara said the strong results reflect the bank’s disciplined management, resilience, and commitment to creating long-term value for customers and shareholders.

He noted that the bank remains financially strong and is focused on supporting Kenya’s economic growth while continuing to improve customer experience through technology and careful risk management.

The results come as Kenya’s banking industry adjusts to changes in the lending market, including the full adoption of the Kenya Shilling Overnight Interbank Average (KESONIA) benchmark for risk-based loan pricing. Banks are also dealing with global economic uncertainty, high energy costs, and changing monetary policies.

Despite these challenges, Stanbic maintained one of the strongest asset quality records in the banking sector. The bank recorded a credit loss ratio of 0.5% and kept its non-performing loans (NPLs) at 7.73%, which is lower than the industry average.

Stanbic Bank Kenya Chief Financial and Value Officer Dennis Musau said the positive results were driven by steady revenue growth, cost control, and strong risk management.

He added that improving economic conditions and rising private-sector lending provide new opportunities for the bank to continue supporting businesses while delivering sustainable returns to shareholders.

During the six-month period, Stanbic played a key role in several major financial transactions, including the Kenya Pipeline Corporation IPO, Safaricom share-related transactions, and Kenya’s government-to-government (G-to-G) petroleum importation programme, helping strengthen the country’s energy security and economy.

The bank also continued to support small businesses by providing more than KES 21 billion in financing to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).

Through the Stanbic Foundation, the Group further strengthened its support for entrepreneurs by extending KES 181 billion in concessionary lending to help businesses start, grow, and expand.

Stanbic also recorded strong growth in its wealth management business. Assets under management increased by 63% to KES 7 billion as more customers sought investment and wealth creation opportunities.

As part of its digital transformation strategy, the bank introduced new features on its mobile banking platform and rolled out Dynamic Currency Conversion services across its ATM network, making banking more convenient for customers.

Its customer base grew by 6% to 258,000 customers, reflecting increasing confidence in the bank’s products, services, and digital platforms.

Looking ahead, Dr. Oigara said Stanbic will continue focusing on helping customers achieve their growth ambitions, expanding digital banking services, strengthening its financial position, and creating sustainable value for shareholders despite ongoing economic challenges.

Stanbic’s strong financial performance was also reflected in the stock market, where it ranked among the top three best-performing banking stocks on the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) during the period.

The Group also received several industry awards, including Best Bank in Tier 1 at the Think Business Awards, Winner – Mergers and Acquisitions Financial Advisor at the 2025 DealMakers Africa Annual Awards, and Best Investment Bank in Kenya at the Euromoney Awards, recognizing its excellence across the banking and financial services sector.
