SOFY Unicharm Launches Joint Venture in Kenya

The new SOFY Unicharm joint venture between Unicharm Corporation, Toyota Tsusho Corporation and CFAO Kenya Limited officially begins operations in Nairobi, Kenya. This partnership brings together Japanese innovation and local expertise to expand access to quality, affordable hygiene products across East Africa. The venture represents an investment of two billion Kenyan shillings and shows a commitment to regional growth and economic development.

SOFY Unicharm will introduce a variety of feminine care items, including a premium absorbent product and a locally produced long lasting option. The company aims to manufacture these products locally, which should reduce costs and make them more accessible to consumers across the region. Single pad sachets will be offered to help overcome the price barriers that some individuals face when purchasing sanitary supplies.

SOFY Unicharm has partnered with organizations such as JICA, UNFPA, and UN Women Kenya to promote menstrual health education. These collaborations aim to improve knowledge, encourage open conversations about menstruation, and help break down stigma and taboos. The initiatives also support Kenya's broader efforts to improve menstrual hygiene management, especially for girls who face challenges accessing products. The company also provides resources to schools and community groups to foster supportive environments for girls.

SOFY Unicharm intends to integrate sustainable practices into its operations, focusing on local production and responsible waste management. Establishing manufacturing facilities in Kenya allows the company to support the local economy and reduce transportation related emissions. The approach also includes exploring ways to improve product reuse and recycling to minimize environmental impact. These efforts align with broader goals of creating social, environmental, and business value for the region.

SOFY Unicharm envisions a future where women and girls can live authentically without their potential being limited by menstruation. The company aims to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals by providing quality products and supporting education. Through these actions, the organization seeks to build a sustainable business that benefits communities across East Africa. The vision indicates a commitment to long term social and economic progress in the region.
