Visa and BAKE

Kenya’s content creators are no longer just building audiences, they are building businesses.

Recognizing the growing economic influence of creators, global payments leader Visa has partnered with the Bloggers Association of Kenya (BAKE) for the 10th anniversary edition of the BAKE Awards, lending its support to the Lifestyle Category and reinforcing the importance of sustainable monetization in the creator economy.

The partnership aligns with this year’s theme, “The Creator Economy: Turning Content into Capital,” a reflection of how influencers, bloggers, podcasters, digital publishers, and online personalities are increasingly transforming their content into viable sources of income.

From Passion to Profession

Over the past decade, Kenya’s digital landscape has changed dramatically. What began as blogging and social media content creation has evolved into a vibrant industry supporting thousands of young entrepreneurs.

Today’s creators generate revenue through brand partnerships, digital advertising, affiliate marketing, online stores, subscriptions, events, and paid content.

However, earning money consistently remains one of the biggest challenges, especially when dealing with international clients and global audiences.

Visa’s partnership seeks to help address those challenges by promoting secure payment systems, digital financial literacy, and access to global financial networks.

“The creator economy in Kenya has evolved past mere entertainment; it is a formidable driver of youth employment and financial innovation,” said John Njoroge, Country Manager for Visa Kenya.

Lifestyle Creators at the Center

Visa’s sponsorship of the Lifestyle Category recognizes one of the fastest-growing segments within the creator ecosystem.

Lifestyle creators influence consumer choices in fashion, travel, food, wellness, personal finance, home living, and culture. Their recommendations increasingly shape purchasing decisions and brand engagement among digital audiences.

As the creator economy grows, these content creators are becoming small business owners, managing partnerships, negotiating contracts, and building personal brands that generate income beyond social media.

A Milestone for the Industry

The BAKE Awards have become the country’s premier platform for celebrating digital excellence across 23 categories.

This year’s edition is particularly significant as it marks a decade of recognizing Kenya’s most influential online voices.

According to BAKE Chairperson Kennedy Kachwanya, Visa’s involvement underscores the growing legitimacy of content creation as an economic sector.

“Having a global fintech pioneer validate our space is exactly what the industry needs as we focus on turning creative content into tangible capital. This collaboration bridges the creative community with institutional financial systems.”

Celebrating the Business of Creativity

The partnership highlights a broader shift in how society views content creators. They are no longer seen solely as entertainers or influencers but as entrepreneurs contributing to employment, innovation, and economic growth.

The culmination of the collaboration will take place during the BAKE Awards Winners Gala Night on June 27 in Nairobi, where a Visa representative will present the Lifestyle Category award.

As voting continues across the country, the awards serve as a reminder that Kenya’s creator economy is entering a new chapter, one where creativity, technology, and business increasingly converge to create new opportunities for a digital generation.
