LexisNexis is reaching out to you across Kenya's legal community with an invitation to help shape the future of legal AI Kenya research and workflows built on authoritative Kenyan legal content. The company announced this initiative in Nairobi on 13 October 2026 emphasizing that your local expertise must guide how global technology gets applied in our courts and chambers. This is not about importing solutions developed elsewhere but about building something that fits Kenya's unique legal environment.
Access to comprehensive current and easily searchable legal information remains fragmented or difficult to obtain across many African markets and this reality affects the daily work of judges legal practitioners and academics alike. When legislation case law and legal commentary become easier to find and use through legal AI Kenya tools legal professionals can make more informed decisions which in turn improves access to justice and strengthens the rule of law for everyone.
LexisNexis believes that strengthening access to trusted legal content for judges legal practitioners academics and other justice sector stakeholders can make an important contribution to advancing the rule of law in Kenya. Artificial intelligence when combined with authoritative local legal content and expertise could accelerate this process through legal AI Kenya systems that make vast bodies of legal information faster to navigate understand and apply in practice.
Ian Andrews chief executive of LexisNexis South Africa said the objective is to combine global technological capability with Kenyan legal expertise and context rather than simply transplant solutions developed elsewhere. He explained that legal AI Kenya technology could ultimately contribute towards legal and judicial systems that process information more efficiently provide better quality decision-making and reduce the time between seeking legal remedy and receiving it adding that justice delayed is justice not served.
Access to legal content is key to achieving accelerated but trustworthy justice through legal AI Kenya because law may exist yet its value diminishes when the people it serves or the professionals tasked with applying it cannot readily access and use the information required to exercise legal rights. Andrews said access to legal remedy equality under the law transparency of the law and an independent judiciary were fundamental components of the rule of law and advancing these principles supports economic development social cohesion and investor confidence.
Andrews also noted that laws are there to protect citizens and regulate society but if the law cannot be effectively applied in the lives of the people it is intended to serve or regulate the environment in which they operate then it becomes ineffective. AI is already helping to narrow the distance between access to legal information and its practical application via legal AI Kenya platforms. Legal professionals have traditionally spent substantial amounts of time researching legislation finding precedents consolidating documents and interrogating large volumes of information before legal analysis can begin.
Legal AI Kenya is particularly effective at aggregating complex information and could help legal professionals navigate large bodies of legislation and case law summarise material and identify information relevant to the questions they are examining. The technology should however accelerate legal expertise rather than attempt to replace it and Andrews emphasized that AI is very clearly just a tool to help us navigate more effectively to become more productive and to become more effective in how we interpret the law.
Judgment nuance experience and critical thinking remain human responsibilities which is why legal AI Kenya tools were developed to ensure that useful AI capabilities are matched with localised human expertise and experience. In addition to and adjacent to this collaboration with stakeholders in Kenya's justice system is key to achieving digital solutions that provide the utility that supports the rule of law.
LexisNexis has called for collaboration with Kenya's legal profession judiciary academic institutions regulatory bodies and other stakeholders in the justice system to participate in shaping how legal AI Kenya technology are applied. The objective is to establish what tools and content should be developed or leveraged to support the continued digital transformation of Kenya's justice system and Andrews urged local expertise to guide how global technology is applied so that solutions reflect Kenya's unique legal environment and priorities.
