KCB and KDF Launch Mortgage Scheme to Boost Home Ownership for the Military as KCB Bank and the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) introduce a new mortgage program to help military personnel own homes more easily and at a lower cost.
The new mortgage scheme is a partnership between KCB, the Kenya Defence Forces, the Ministry of Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development, and the Affordable Housing Board. It brings KDF members into the Civil Servants Housing Mortgage Scheme, giving them access to affordable home loans.
More than 50,000 active KDF personnel are expected to benefit from the program. Eligible military officers can receive mortgage loans at a low interest rate of 4% per year and repay them over a period of up to 20 years, making home ownership more affordable.
Speaking during the launch, KCB Bank Kenya Managing Director Annastacia Kimtai said the partnership shows the bank’s commitment to improving the financial well-being of Kenya’s servicemen and women. She noted that owning a home gives families security, stability, and a chance to build wealth, and the new mortgage scheme will help military personnel achieve that dream.
The financing can be used to buy completed houses, purchase residential land, build homes, buy land and build on it, access equity from existing property, or transfer mortgages from other financial institutions. Muslim officers can also benefit from Shariah-compliant financing through KCB Sahl Bank.
Principal Secretary for Housing and Urban Development Charles Hinga said expanding the Civil Servants Housing Mortgage Scheme to include KDF personnel demonstrates the government’s commitment to helping public servants own homes. He added that working with KCB will create more opportunities for Kenyans to access affordable housing while supporting growth in the housing sector.
As the financing partner, KCB will guide eligible officers throughout the mortgage process by providing financial assessments, advisory services, financing, and customer education. The bank already manages more than 90 mortgage schemes serving both public and private sector organizations.
Chief of the Defence Forces General Charles Kahariri welcomed the partnership, saying that the welfare of military personnel is a top priority. He explained that affordable mortgages will allow officers and service members to invest in homes for their families while improving their financial security and planning confidently for the future.
The partnership also supports the government’s goal of increasing home ownership among public servants and encouraging investment in Kenya’s housing sector through more residential development.
