Karibu Night brings Kenyan music and fashion together at Greasy Tunes as Spotify stages a Made In Kenya-inspired showcase during Studio 18’s Karibu Night event

Nairobi, Kenya, 17 July 2026 – Karibu Night brings Kenyan music and fashion together at Greasy Tunes as Spotify stages a Made In Kenya-inspired showcase during Studio 18’s Karibu Night event, celebrating the creativity, talent, and culture of Kenya’s young generation.

The second day of Spotify’s 12-day Greasy Tunes programme took place at Heltz House in Nairobi. Hosted by Studio 18, Karibu Night combined live music performances with a unique fashion showcase inspired by Spotify’s Made In Kenya playlist.

The fashion show featured the official Greasy Tunes jersey and scarf designed by Studio 18. Designers from the creative community used these pieces to create different stylish looks that reflected the energy, colour, and culture found in Kenyan music.

Spotify said the Made In Kenya playlist represents the sound of modern Kenyan music. Afropop continues to grow in popularity, especially among young listeners. Listening to Afropop in Kenya has increased by 21% over the past year among people aged 18 to 24. About 40% of listeners to the Made In Kenya playlist are in this age group, making it one of Spotify’s most popular playlists for Gen Z.

As part of the Greasy Tunes programme, Spotify changes the Made In Kenya playlist cover every day to feature artists performing at each event. On Karibu Night, the playlist cover featured BURUKLYN BOYZ, who also headlined the event.

Bea Theron, Spotify’s Experiential Marketing Lead for Africa, said the Made In Kenya playlist is more than just a collection of songs. She explained that it reflects how Kenyan youth are shaping music, fashion, and culture. She added that Karibu Night was created to bring these creative worlds together beyond music streaming.

Spotify’s latest data also shows that young people between 18 and 24 years make up more than half of all Spotify streams in Nairobi, highlighting the growing influence of Gen Z on Kenya’s music industry.

The event featured performances from some of Kenya’s established and upcoming artists, including:

  • BURUKLYN BOYZ

  • Afrikun
  • Solo

The lineup showcased the diversity of Kenya’s music scene, from drill and Afropop to fresh new talent gaining recognition through Spotify.

Fashion inspired by music

The fashion showcase focused on the official Greasy Tunes jersey and scarf created by Studio 18. Different designers reimagined the pieces into creative outfits inspired by the music, colours, and emotions found in the Made In Kenya playlist.

Studio 18 co-founder Brandon Zamani said the jersey and scarf were designed to remain meaningful beyond the event. He said seeing different designers transform them into unique fashion pieces demonstrated how closely music and fashion are connected in Kenya.

With many playlist listeners aged between 18 and 24, the showcase highlighted how young Kenyans are influencing not only music but also fashion and creative expression.
