Flutterwave, one of Africa’s leading payments technology companies, has received a strategic investment from Circle Ventures, the investment arm of Circle Internet Group. This comes after Flutterwave joined the launch of the Circle Payments Network in 2025.
The investment will help Flutterwave add USDC, a digital stablecoin, as a payment and settlement option on its platform. Businesses using Flutterwave will be able to accept payments in local currencies and receive settlements in USDC. This can reduce payment delays, lower transaction costs, and allow businesses to receive money almost instantly, even outside normal banking hours.
Flutterwave believes stablecoins like USDC will play an important role in the future of payments in Africa. By adding USDC while following regulatory requirements, the company aims to offer businesses a faster, secure, and compliant way to send and receive money using blockchain technology.
Flutterwave’s Founder and CEO, Olugbenga “GB” Agboola, said the investment is an important step toward improving how money moves between Africa and the rest of the world. He explained that stablecoins are becoming an essential part of the global financial system, and integrating USDC into Flutterwave’s platform will help businesses make payments as quickly as information travels on the internet.
The global value of stablecoins in circulation is now more than $300 billion, and Africa is one of the fastest-growing regions for their use. By supporting different payment methods, including local currencies, bank transfers, cards, and stablecoins, Flutterwave gives businesses more options to choose the fastest, most affordable, and most reliable way to settle their payments.
