For many entrepreneurs, business growth often comes through strategic investments, hard work, and persistence. For Nairobi-based entrepreneur Clinton Odhiambo Odanga, it also came through 27 seconds of football skill.

The founder of Vortex Inc. recently won a fully insured Spiro electric bike worth more than KSh 160,000 during the BetGr8 World Cup Kick-Off Watch Party at Uhuru Park after emerging victorious in the event’s Pepeta Challenge.

Participants competed by keeping a football airborne for as long as possible. Odanga recorded the longest time of the evening, 27 seconds, earning him the grand prize.

“When my name was called, I was surprised and excited. I had come to enjoy the game and interact with other fans,” he said.

Turning Technical Skills into Enterprise

Odanga is part of a growing class of young Kenyan entrepreneurs transforming technical education into viable businesses.

A graduate of Technical and Applied Physics from the Technical University of Kenya, he founded Vortex Inc. five years ago and has since built a business around providing virtual reality experiences to members of the public.

Operating from Uhuru Park, the venture charges KSh 150 per session, serving customers interested in experiencing immersive digital technologies.

The venture reflects how Kenyan entrepreneurs are leveraging emerging technologies to create innovative business opportunities, transforming public access to digital experiences into sustainable income streams within the country’s expanding digital economy.

Beyond the competition, Odanga also explored the BetGr8 digital platform by downloading the app and familiarizing himself with its features, demonstrating his interest in understanding how digital platforms can enhance user engagement and responsible participation.

An Asset That Supports Growth

Unlike many promotional prizes that offer short-term value, the Spiro electric bike has the potential to become a productive business asset.

Odanga believes the bike will reduce transportation challenges, improve mobility, and support day-to-day business operations.

“This bike will help me move around more efficiently and make it easier to manage my business activities,” he said.

For small business owners, mobility remains a critical factor affecting productivity, customer engagement, and operational efficiency. The introduction of electric mobility solutions also offers opportunities to reduce transportation costs over time.

The Rise of Entrepreneurial Opportunity

The story highlights a broader trend in Kenya’s entrepreneurial ecosystem, where opportunity increasingly emerges from the intersection of technology, entertainment, and brand activations.

Through partnerships such as the one between BetGr8 and Spiro, companies are creating experiences that go beyond marketing and provide tangible economic value to participants.

For entrepreneurs like Odanga, these opportunities can translate into assets that directly support business growth.

Lessons for Entrepreneurs

Odanga’s experience offers several lessons for aspiring business owners:

  • Stay open to unexpected opportunities.
  • Invest in skills and emerging technologies.
  • Build businesses around solving real customer needs.
  • Leverage technology as a competitive advantage.
  • View every networking and engagement opportunity as potentially valuable.

From a physics graduate to a virtual reality entrepreneur and now the owner of a new electric bike, Odanga’s journey reflects the resilience and creativity driving Kenya’s next generation of business leaders.

What began as a football watch party ended as a strategic investment in an entrepreneur’s future.
