Absa Asset Management Limited Receives CMA Approval to Set Up Special Funds, giving Kenyan investors more opportunities to diversify their investments and access global markets.
Absa Asset Management Limited (AAML), the asset management arm of Absa Bank Kenya PLC, has received approval from the Capital Markets Authority (CMA) to introduce two new special funds under the Absa Unit Trust Scheme.
The new funds will be known as the Absa Global Multi-Asset Special Fund (USD) and the Absa Global Multi-Asset Special Fund (KES). They are expected to give investors access to different types of investments in international markets while benefiting from professional fund management.
The CMA approved the two funds after reviewing AAML’s application and confirming that it met the requirements of Kenya’s capital markets regulations. AAML will continue to operate the funds in line with CMA rules and other regulatory requirements.
More investment choices for Kenyans
The new funds will add to Absa’s existing range of investment products, which includes:
- Absa Shilling Money Market Fund
- Absa Dollar Money Market Fund
- Absa Fixed Income Fund
- Absa Balanced Fund
- Absa Equity Fund
These products are managed by AAML, which is licensed by the CMA to manage collective investment schemes in Kenya.
Elizabeth Irungu, Head of AAML, said the approval is an important step in giving Kenyan investors more choices. She noted that investors are increasingly looking for ways to diversify their investments and achieve their long-term financial goals.
According to AAML, the new Global Multi-Asset Special Funds will allow investors to spread their investments across different asset classes and markets. This can give them broader exposure to investment opportunities while their money is managed by professionals.
Growing demand for special funds
The move comes as more Kenyan investors show interest in special investment funds. Data from the CMA shows that special funds accounted for 23.9% of Kenya’s Collective Investment Schemes market, with assets under management reaching KSh 203.5 billion by March 2026.
AAML said this growth shows that investors are increasingly looking for investment products that match their different financial goals and risk levels.
The company also pointed out that Kenyan investments remain attractive. For example, the Absa Equity Fund grew by 15% during the first half of 2026. Absa’s locally focused investment products also offer relatively low entry amounts, starting from KSh 1,000 and USD 100.
Supporting long-term wealth creation
The new special funds are expected to provide investors with more ways to diversify their portfolios and participate in international markets.
Absa said it will continue developing investment products that are accessible and professionally managed for individuals, businesses and institutions.
The growth of AAML’s funds by 28% since inception also reflects increasing interest in diversified investment solutions and growing confidence among investors.
The new Global Multi-Asset Special Funds are expected to be launched soon, giving Kenyan investors additional options as they work towards their long-term financial and wealth creation goals.
