Absa Asset Management Limited Receives CMA Approval to Set Up Special Funds

Absa Asset Management Limited Receives CMA Approval to Set Up Special Funds, giving Kenyan investors more opportunities to grow and diversify their wealth through professionally managed investment products.

Absa Asset Management Limited (AAML), a subsidiary of Absa Bank Kenya PLC, has received approval from the Capital Markets Authority (CMA) to launch two new special investment funds under the Absa Unit Trust Scheme.

The two new funds are:

  • Absa Global Multi-Asset Special Fund (USD), which will invest in US Dollar-denominated assets.
  • Absa Global Multi-Asset Special Fund (KES), which will invest using Kenyan Shillings.

These funds will give investors access to global investment opportunities while allowing professionals to manage their money on their behalf.

The CMA approved the funds after reviewing AAML’s application and confirming that it met all the legal and regulatory requirements under Kenya’s Collective Investment Schemes Regulations, 2023. The approval requires AAML to continue following all CMA rules and guidelines.

The new funds will soon join Absa’s existing investment products, which include the Absa Shilling Money Market Fund, Absa Dollar Money Market Fund, Absa Fixed Income Fund, Absa Balanced Fund, and Absa Equity Fund. These funds are designed to help individuals and businesses achieve different financial goals depending on their investment needs and risk levels.

Elizabeth Irungu, Head of Absa Asset Management Limited, said the approval marks an important step in giving Kenyans more investment choices.

She explained that many investors are looking for opportunities to spread their investments across different markets, and the new Global Multi-Asset Special Funds will help them grow and protect their wealth through professional fund management.

She also noted that while the new funds provide access to international markets, local investments continue to perform strongly. For example, the Absa Equity Fund recorded a 15 percent return during the first half of 2026. She added that local investment products remain affordable, with minimum investments starting from KSh 1,000 or USD 100, making them accessible to more people.

According to Ms. Irungu, Absa remains committed to understanding customer needs and creating investment products that match different financial goals, risk levels, and long-term plans.

Data from the Capital Markets Authority shows that more Kenyans are investing in Special Funds. As of March 2026, these funds accounted for 23.9 percent of Kenya’s Collective Investment Schemes (CIS) market, with assets under management reaching KSh 203.5 billion. This growth reflects the increasing demand for investment products that offer more flexibility and diversification.

The new Global Multi-Asset Special Funds are expected to give investors access to a wider range of investments across different asset classes, helping them reduce risk while increasing their opportunities for long-term returns.

Absa says the launch supports its purpose of empowering Africa’s future by providing accessible, transparent, and professionally managed investment solutions. The company also revealed that its funds have grown by 28 percent since inception, highlighting growing customer confidence and increasing interest in diversified investment opportunities.
