Western Kenya’s economy has always revolved around agriculture. From Kitale and Bungoma to Kakamega, Busia, Vihiga, Kapenguria and neighbouring counties, thousands of businesses depend on the movement of grain, livestock, farm inputs and animal health products throughout the year.

Every planting and harvesting season presents enormous business opportunities, but for many agro-dealers and distributors, accessing enough working capital to meet customer demand remains a major challenge.

A new partnership between Avenews and Paves Vetagro Ltd aims to change that by making financing more accessible to agribusinesses across the region.

The collaboration enables stockists, agro-dealers and distributors to access financing that allows them to purchase inventory when demand is highest, helping businesses grow without placing unnecessary pressure on their cash flow.

Speaking during an engagement with businesses in Kitale, Avenews Business Development Director Emmanuel Murai said many agricultural businesses already have strong customer bases and dependable suppliers.

“The biggest obstacle is often cash flow. Our financing helps businesses buy stock when opportunities arise, and as they successfully repay, they become eligible for additional financing that supports continued growth.”

Supporting the Businesses Behind Agriculture

Agriculture is often associated with farmers, but behind every successful farming season is an extensive network of distributors, agro-vets, stockists and retailers that ensure farmers have access to quality inputs.

Paves Vetagro Ltd has spent more than two decades building that network across Western Kenya.

Today, the company distributes seeds, fertilisers, crop protection products, animal health products, animal feeds and farm equipment across Trans Nzoia, West Pokot, Bungoma, Kakamega, Vihiga, Siaya and surrounding counties.

Its strong relationships with businesses throughout the region make it an ideal partner for expanding access to financial solutions.

Financing That Matches Business Cycles

Unlike conventional financing, the Avenews model is designed around the realities of agricultural trade.

Demand for stock rises sharply during planting seasons, creating periods when businesses need additional capital to meet customer needs.

Rather than missing sales opportunities due to limited cash flow, businesses can access financing that enables them to maintain healthy stock levels while continuing to serve their customers.

The financing supports key agricultural sectors including cereals, dairy, poultry, livestock, horticulture and animal health.

Building Stronger Rural Economies

Improving access to finance for agribusinesses has benefits that extend well beyond individual businesses.

When agro-dealers are adequately stocked, farmers gain timely access to quality inputs, helping improve productivity and supporting stronger agricultural output.

Healthy supply chains also create more business opportunities for distributors, transporters, retailers and service providers throughout the region.

As Western Kenya continues to strengthen its position as one of Kenya’s leading agricultural trading hubs, partnerships that combine financing with trusted local distribution networks are becoming increasingly important in supporting sustainable economic growth.

Looking Beyond Western Kenya

The Kitale engagement forms part of Avenews’ wider strategy to strengthen agricultural trade across Kenya through partnerships with established distributors.

Following engagements with businesses across Western Kenya earlier this year, the company is returning this July to expand access to financing and onboard more agribusinesses.

The insights gathered from businesses will also guide the company’s expansion into other high-potential agricultural regions, ensuring that more entrepreneurs across Kenya can access the working capital needed to seize new opportunities and build resilient businesses.
